China’s persecution of the Uyghurs: What can Belgium and the EU do?

04.03.2021

Thursday, 4th March 2021, 16:00 – 17:30 (CET – Brussels time)

In recent months, newly discovered evidence has further highlighted the gross violations of universal human rights being perpetrated against the Uyghurs in China. It is time for democratic countries across the world to take action and uphold their democratic values, by condemning these atrocities. Speakers will hence explore policy and legal avenues at EU and Belgian levels to counter the ongoing persecution of the Uyghurs in China.

The discussion is organised in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy to Belgium and the U.S. Mission to the European Union.

Speakers:

Assita Kanko, Member of the European Parliament, Vice Chair of the ECR group
Saskia Bricmont, Member of the European Parliament, Greens/EFA group
Sylvie Lasserre, Freelance reporter and author of “Voyage au pays des Ouïghours”
