Irshad Manji at the National Organization for Women

EFD Senior Fellow Irshad Manji addressed the 2008 Annual Conference of the National Organization for Woman on 18 July 2008 calling for "super women" to unite in their fight for universal human rights and justice. However, being unified is not about being uniform, Manji points out. Unity is about working for a common goal yet feeling free to express diversity.

Defending the universality of human rights is that common goal. Manji warns against the threat from cultural relativism- that is universal rights versus the rights of cultures and urged women worldwide to not fall into the multicultural trap.
