Irshad Manji speaks at a conference in Potsdam

12.06.2009

Irshad Manji spoke at “Heroism Re-considered,” a conference hosted by the Einstein Forum in Potsdam, Germany. Manji presented her views about whether suicide bombers and their advocates can be seen as “courageous.” She outlined three conditions for achieving moral courage, and concluded that violent jihadis fail all three tests. The Q & A session following her presentation proved to be among the most spirited of the conference, with Manji challenging the “excuses” that some delegates appeared to be making for terrorism.

Irshad Manji is a Senior Fellow with the European Foundation for Democracy in Brussels.
