Islam and it’s Taboos: Irshad Manji takes part in the debate

11.02.2008

Ms. Irshad Manji, Amel Boubekeur, leader of the Islam and Europe programme at CEPS, Robert Spencer, director of JihadWatch.org, and Abed Ayoub, legal advisor for American-Arab Anti-discrimination Committee, joined FRANCE 24’s Andrea Sanke to debate Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Islam and its taboos.

The Debate asked for protection of freedom of speech by paying a special tax in relation to the outspoken Islam critic Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s visit to France on Sunday 10 February as she seeks French citizenship to gain France’s protection. According to Ms. Manji, only those who can afford protection can enjoy freedom of speech. In conclusion, she praised France's decision to support a pan-European fund to protect “lower-profile dissident Muslims” such as the French Algerian director Mohamed Sifaoui.
