Islam and radicalisation

On 19 February 2016, the organisation Inner Wheel organised a briefing in Pisa to discuss about “Islam and radicalisation”. EFD Researcher Tommaso Virgili was the guest speaker. Virgili warned against the ideology lying at the basis of the terrorist phenomenon. He highlighted that jihadism is nurtured by an extremist view of religion, often promoted by radical groups and foreign states, which rejects liberal-democratic principles. He also presented EFD's various activities aimed at countering radicalisation. At the end of his analysis, Virgili answered numerous questions from the floor on various subjects mostly related to the current geopolitical situation and the dangers of domestic extremism.
