Somaliland: building security in the Horn of Africa

On 22 January 2015, the European Foundation for Democracy hosted a closed-door briefing to discuss the security challenges which are impeding stability throughout the Horn of Africa and what Somaliland is doing to improve security in the region. The guest speakers were Somaliland Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Behi Yonis and Development and Planning Minister Dr. Saad Ali Shire. During the briefing the speakers engaged with Brussels-based diplomats and officials on the active role Somaliland is playing in building security in the Horn of Africa. The Ministers also set out how Somaliland is working with regional and international partners in the fight against terrorism, piracy and extremism in the region.
