“The Islamic Republic of Iran as a totalitarian state in the Middle East”

19.11.2008
Speaking at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz on 19 November 2008, EFD Senior Fellow Wahied Wahdat-Hagh discussed the totalitarian nature of the Iranian regime in the framework of a four-day conference on "Iran and Europe".  Wahdat-Hagh pointed out that in Iran we are currently facing a new form of totalitarianism and outlined the specificity and the new threats to Europe that it represents.  He also provided a detailed analysis of the violence of the regime towards anybody expressing dissent and, more in general towards women, student movements as well as religious and ethnic minorities.
