On 9 June the European Foundation for Democracy and the Counter Extremism Project, hosted a policy dialogue conference entitled: “The role of the ideology in radicalising young people – how can international cooperation best tackle this thorny issue?”. The guest speaker was Karima Bennoune, United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights and Professor of International Law at the University of California, Davis, School of Law. Her recent book, “Your Fatwa Does Not Apply Here: Untold Stories from the Fight Against Muslim Fundamentalism”, was awarded the Dayton Literary Peace Prize in 2014. The related TED talk, “When people of Muslim heritage challenge fundamentalism,” has received over 1.36 million views.
