Tools of the Trade: Online Radicalisation
Social media has fundamentally changed how we share information – now there are so many more ways of reaching people. Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms are widely used, especially by young people, to stay informed in real time. However, some groups and individuals misuse these platforms to promote radical ideas and shape information for their own purposes. In the open space offered by social media, where identities can be kept anonymous or changed quickly, how can these individuals and groups be identified, and how effective are their strategies?
In this Tools of the Trade session, members of Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, will learn more about online radicalization and acquire some tips on social media monitoring. The session will be led by EFD Senior Policy Advisor Dr Demir Murat Seyrek, who will use concrete examples of online radicalization to illustrate the workshop.
