Turkey’s failed coup: Domestic and international consequences

EFD Senior Policy Advisor Dr. Demir Murat Seyrek spoke at a policy briefing held by the European Policy Centre on 22 September 2016 entitled: "Turkey’s failed coup: Domestic and international consequences".

During the policy dialogue, participants expressed their horror at the coup attempt in Turkey on 15 July and pointed to the trauma experienced by the Turkish people and the fact that it could have led to civil war if it had not been foiled.

Dr. Seyrek saw the coup as being very traumatic for Turkish society and does not expect things to go back to normal for some time.
