Radicalisation and the appeal of the conflict in Syria

24 March 2014

Ahmad Mansour appeared in a news and current affairs programme on Germany's ZDF channel to discuss radicalisation among German youth, and the appeal of the conflict in Syria.

To explain the appeal of radical Islam, Ahmad refers to his own experience as a teenager: “[I was attracted to Islamism] mainly because I was looking for the same things which many young people in Germany are also looking for: some sort of meaning, happiness, recognition. And the Salafists offer all of these things.”

The programme also refers to the HAYAT helpline, where Ahmad works as a counsellor, which provides advice and support for individuals who are concerned that somebody they know is developing radicalised tendencies.
