Against harmful religious teachings in schools
EFD Programme Director Ahmad Mansour speaks out against harmful religious teachings which 'incapacitate' pupils in the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. In his article, Ahmad stresses the importance of German schools providing lessons on Islam, but also calls for the content of these classes to be assessed and regulated by the state to prevent extremist and potentially damaging narratives being conveyed to young people.
“The values which are taught in these classes must be compatible with our democratic society, our constitution, our human rights laws, and, above all, our modern education system which is based on reason and rationality. Anything else is unacceptable, and could have disastrous consequences, both for individuals – in the form of terrified children, and for society as a whole."
