Between religion and tradition: Gender roles, sexuality and honour

An article by EFD Programme Director Ahmad Mansour on gender roles, sexuality and the concept of honour is published in the current edition of Germany’s Der Bürger im Staat. The article analyses values which are commonly held among individuals from ‘honour cultures’ — values which are connected with the sexuality of women and girls, and can lead to oppression and inequality. It also presents the Heroes project which addresses this phenomenon by working with young men in Germany who want to question the concept of honour, and bring about a change in their communities.
