Law anti-mosques rejected – One way religious freedom

25 February 2016

EFD Senior Fellow Valentina Colombo comments on the rejection by the Italian Constitutional Court of the regional law regulating the construction of new places of worship from an administrative and urban point of view, in Lombardy. The law, soon renamed “law anti-mosques”, has been condemned by CAIM (Coordination group for Islamic associations of Milan, Monza and Brianza) as an unacceptable example of incivility and intolerance. In the article, Colombo questions whether we are once again faced with attempts to victimise the Muslim community and if the statements made by CAIM and UCOII (Union of the Italian Islamic Communities) are also shared by the Muslim community in Lombardy?
