Nigeria: agreement with Boko Haram. On Monday they will release the girls

18 October 2014

In an interview on Radio Vaticana, EFD Senior Fellow Valentina Colombo discusses the potential agreement that would see the release of the 219 girls kidnapped by the militant Islamist group Boko Haram.  Valentina remains slightly sceptical about this development, stating that any agreement with would imply some form of payment. She posits that Boko Haram might try to negotiate more freedom to act externally, and notes that an agreement with the group may be part of President Goodluck Jonathan’s political strategy in light of the presidential elections in Nigeria next year.
