Political Islam and Islam in politics in Europe

01 June 2014

In an article published by the European View journal, EFD Senior Fellow Valentina Colombo analyses the evolution of Muslim political participation in Europe.

The article shows that Islamic parties in Europe have been largely unpopular. Politicians with Muslim backgrounds who join non-Islamic parties, however, gain good results. Valentina explains that this is the case because Muslims representing non-Islamic parties are considered ordinary citizens by Europeans and voters support them based on their inner qualities, regardless of their religion.
