Don’t play it down! Trivialising the threat of radical Islam hinders effective prevention work

In an article published by Germany’s Konrad Adenauer Foundation, EFD Programme Director Ahmad Mansour calls for German policy makers to ensure that the debate about radicalisation is conducted carefully and thoroughly, without stoking hate or inciting fear. Ahmad states that it is only when the true nature of the threat of radical Islam is understood that we can expect to make real progress with prevention work. He adds that policy makers can make an important contribution to prevention approaches by facilitating an open discourse on the topic, supporting liberal Muslim voices, and financing counter-radicalisation work in schools such as projects which encourage critical thinking.
