We will never completely eliminate the danger

10 April 2014

Following the return from Syria of one of Switzerland's foreign fighters, EFD's Lorenzo Vidino speaks to Swiss daily 20 Minuten about how these individuals can be reintegrated into society.

"We know that not everybody who returns to Switzerland will want launch an attack against the West. The task is to reintegrate these people. For example, there are the teenagers who are basically very naive. They come back, and they are shocked by what they have seen in Syria. For these people, counselling and psychological support would be an option. This is not the case for the hardliners who come back more radicalised than they were before they left. Here, the task is to minimise the risk: nobody is under the illusion that psychological support can change a person's ideology."
